Did you know that the chilly winter air can deplete your skin of moisture resulting in a dull, even dry appearance? Every year right around this time I always notice that my skin tends to get a little drier and taking more oils is a must!
2016 has been a crazy year of transition, relocation, rejuvenation, and rediscovery for me, which has been an amazing experience, but has left little room for a consistent routine. Running out of the moisturizer I have used for decades in a foreign country or trying to keep a eating plan when different fruits and veggies are in season are just some of the things I've adapted to this year.
What I have learned from this experience is that nature always has a solution! After spending thousands of dollars on creams, lotions, and expensive elixirs, I've found that applying oils directly to my skin in the morning will give me the best glow. If I'm in Greece I will use olive oil, if I'm traveling through tropical zones I'll slather on coconut oil.
What am I obsessing over now? Mandarine Oranges!!!
They become ripe just around the time your skin might need a little pick-me-up. You might also recognize these delish fruits as clementines, satsumas, or tangerines which are all part of the same family. These fruits have endless uses for your skin as a food, mask, toner, and even a scrub.
Starting from the Inside Out...
The Juice: Internally, the juice of mandarines will give you the building blocks for great skin including Vitamin C, Vitamin A, phytonutrients, and lots of fiber. Externally, as a simple mask using the juice topically on the skin, it will immediately brighten your complexion while also nourishing it with collagen-building vitamin C.
The Peel: We often forget about this part but its healing properties are quite potent. The peel is loaded with beneficial oils and antioxidants with can be infused into a oil or the peel can be dried and used as a scrub.
